Are you concerned for your employee’s safety?
Have you ever had employees injured in the workplace?
Today I’ll share a few ideas about how automation can help increase safety in your workplace.
Workplace Hazards
Many tasks require that employees are exposed to hazards. That could be:
- Fumes, dust, particulates, carcinogens, asphyxiation, acids/bases,
- contagions
- Mechanical: pinch hazards, rotating equipment, blunt force trauma, sharp objections, high pressure, fall hazards
- Radiation
Engineering Controls vs. Administrative Controls and PPE
For many of these tasks there are procedures, training, and PPE that help protect employees. Unfortunately for a lot of situations that can result in serious consequences, PPE only provides a marginal amount of protection.
Safety in many cases, also relies on employees following the procedures correctly at all times (which we know sometimes does not happen).
Using Automation to Reduce Injuries
Automation can prevent serious consequences and repetitive injuries by allowing the operator be far out of harms way…
For example, Clow Valve Company has used robots can load and unload heavy parts when machine tending. This prevents many acute and repetitive injuries to the employees.
